I WANT

August 10, 2017 by Robert Sward Leave a Comment

to go back to that room,

that room where I was

in that house

where we used to live…

*

Are we gonna go home to where

we used to live? You-we lived

in a place in Chicago.

Very definitely Chicago!

I don’t know what town we came from originally.

I don’t know, why should I know?

That kind of music you’re playing

we used to have in Chicago.

Gershwin? Do you know

anything about that? Oh, wow.

That’s nice. I like

the same things you like about it.

I wonder how we got it?

IPad? Pandora?

*

Oh, God how’d you like that? That’s

the washing machine. No, I don’t mind it.

I don’t mind at all. I don’t know why I should!

*

Really? You think…?

But I don’t know your name.

Sex with someone…

I don’t even know their name?

Anonymous sex.

*

Who am I? Do you know who I am?

I’m your wife? When did that happen?

Thirty years ago? That’s pretty wonderful.

I love what you have on, your clothes.

I like myself so much I think

any guy who I’d be with

would be lucky.

*

You’re the him I wanted,

You’re the him I got.

Are you the him I wanted?
